For Your Eyes Only: A Look at the Private Journal Feature

Journaling is one of the most powerful tools for mental clarity and self-reflection. It's a space to process emotions, celebrate wins, and untangle complex thoughts. But to be truly effective, a journal must be a space of absolute privacy. You need to know, without a shadow of a doubt, that your thoughts are for your eyes only.

This is why we built the Journal feature in Stillpoint with an unwavering commitment to privacy.

How It Works: Local-First Storage

When you write an entry in the Stillpoint journal, it is saved directly to your browser's local storage.

  • What this means: Your journal entries are stored in a small, private database on your own computer, phone, or tablet.
  • What this DOESN'T mean: Your journal entries are never sent to our servers. They are not uploaded to the cloud. We cannot access them, read them, or analyze them. We don't even know if you're using the feature.

This is a fundamental design choice. Unlike many other journaling apps that sync your data to the cloud (often to provide cross-device access), we have prioritized absolute privacy over convenience. Your relationship with your journal is sacred, and we have no interest in being a part of it.

Features of the Stillpoint Journal

We kept it simple and effective:

  • Daily Prompts: If you're not sure what to write, we provide a new, gentle prompt every day. These are designed to encourage positive reflection, such as "What are you grateful for right now?" or "Describe a place where you feel completely at peace." You can use them as a starting point or ignore them and write freely.
  • Clean, Distraction-Free Interface: The writing environment is minimalist, allowing you to focus on your thoughts without clutter.
  • Offline Access: Because your entries are stored on your device, you can access and write in your journal even without an internet connection.

Why Journaling Matters

The act of translating thoughts and feelings into written words is a powerful form of processing. It can help you:

  • Gain clarity on a problem.
  • Reduce the emotional charge of a difficult experience.
  • Recognize patterns in your thinking and behavior.
  • Cultivate a sense of gratitude.

We encourage you to make the journal a part of your daily routine. Take five minutes in the morning or evening to check in with yourself. With the Stillpoint journal, you can do so with the complete confidence that your private space will remain truly private.
