Rocket Yoga
Rocket Yoga: The Playful Rebel
Rocket Yoga is a fast-paced, dynamic style of yoga developed by Larry Schultz in the 1980s. It modifies the traditional Ashtanga sequence, making it more accessible and playful.
The Rocket Sequences
- Rocket I: Based on the Ashtanga Primary Series.
- Rocket II: Based on the Ashtanga Intermediate (Second) Series.
- Rocket III: A 90-minute class that combines Rocket I and II.
What to Expect in a Class
- Fast-Paced Vinyasa: The class moves quickly, with one breath per movement.
- Focus on Inversions and Arm Balances: Lots of opportunities to practice handstands, forearm stands, and other challenging poses, with modifications.
- A "Floating" Quality: Emphasis on "jump-backs" and "jump-throughs" to build core and upper body strength.
- Playful Atmosphere: The vibe is less reverent and more fun-loving than traditional Ashtanga.
Key Poses
- Handstand (Adho Mukha Vrksasana)
- Forearm Stand (Pincha Mayurasana)
- Crow Pose (Bakasana)
- The challenging seated postures of the Ashtanga series.
