About the Solar Plexus Chakra
The Solar Plexus Chakra, or Manipura (meaning "lustrous gem"), is the seat of our personal power, self-esteem, and willpower. Associated with the element of Fire, it is our "inner sun," governing our ability to assert ourselves, set boundaries, and take disciplined action to achieve our goals. It is the source of our confidence and our ability to manifest our intentions in the world.
When this chakra is balanced:
You feel confident, self-assured, and have a strong sense of your personal power and purpose. You are motivated, reliable, and have the discipline to follow through on your commitments. You are able to set healthy boundaries and command respect from others.
Signs of Imbalance:
- Underactive/Blocked: Leads to low self-esteem, feelings of powerlessness, indecisiveness, procrastination, and a victim mentality.
- Overactive: Can manifest as a need to control others, aggression, arrogance, stubbornness, and workaholism.
Physical Associations:
Physically, this chakra is linked to the digestive system, including the stomach, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. Digestive issues, ulcers, and eating disorders can be signs of a Manipura imbalance.
How to Heal and Balance:
- Connect with the Sun: Spend some time in the sunshine, allowing its warmth to energize you.
- Take Action: Set and achieve small, manageable goals to build a sense of accomplishment and self-trust. Step out of your comfort zone in a small way.
- Yoga: Practice core-strengthening poses like Boat Pose (Navasana) and Plank Pose, as well as twists to stimulate the digestive organs.
- Breathwork: Techniques like Breath of Fire (Kapalabhati) can powerfully activate this energy center.
- Meditation: Visualize a bright, radiant yellow sun in your solar plexus, filling you with confidence and willpower. Chant the Beej Mantra "RAM".
