About the Pose
An advanced and challenging arm balance that combines the deep hip opening of Lotus Pose (Padmasana) with the strength and balance of a handstand or arm balance. In this pose, the practitioner lifts the body off the ground, supported by the hands, with the legs bound in Lotus. It represents a profound integration of strength, flexibility, and focus.
How to Practice
- This is a highly advanced pose. Begin in a stable Lotus Pose (Padmasana).
- From a seated Lotus, thread your arms through the space between your thighs and calves.
- Place your hands firmly on the floor beside your hips.
- Press firmly into your hands, engage your core, and lift your entire body, including your bound legs, off the floor.
- For the full expression (Upward Cockerel), this is performed from a handstand with legs in Lotus, lowering the body down to balance on the hands.
