Hip Opening
Low Lunge
anjaneyasana
About the Pose
Low Lunge is a deep stretch for the hip flexors and quadriceps. With the back knee on the ground, this pose allows the practitioner to sink deeply into the hips, releasing tension that builds up from prolonged sitting.
How to Practice
- From Downward-Facing Dog, step your right foot forward between your hands.
- Lower your left knee to the mat. You can pad the knee with a blanket if needed.
- Ensure your right knee is stacked over your right ankle.
- You can keep your hands on the mat, bring them to your front knee, or sweep them overhead for a deeper stretch and gentle backbend.
Purpose & Benefits
- Stretches Hip Flexors: Provides a deep stretch for the psoas and other hip flexor muscles.
